yes, and it is seen as a desireable way of life.

i saw a couple of older gals in front of the pharacy at walmart the other day. the conversation was one i have heard many times coming from my mother, who loved doctors so much they killed her at age 61.

the talk was all about their meds and how they can get the one bigger dose and cut it in half and save money and and the way they fill their little weekly med boxes so they dont forget to take any particular one, etc, etc, etc. its a frickin religion. how can you tell people like that how screwed in the head they are? they just know they HAVE to have these drugs or bad things will result.

i just covered this earlier in a private email. it is the basis of a star trek episode from the first season called "Symbiosis":
