The answer to your last question; the variables are too complex, but HLA type likely plays a large role.
As you know Apxer, [glad to here from you] I have been working on this problem for many years. I have gone around in many circles, but I wouldn't change a thing! I have learned the long way around which has given me extraordinary insight into the factors involved with chronic conditions such as these. I have observed and recorded many microbes, and the immuno-relationships between them. I have seen commensal organisms go into defensive stature creating ramifications of other problems. I have dismissed some microbes as being normal, and later defining them as foreign.

I sent you a motion pic. of the offending bacteria---you should re-examine it. You will see the similarities with borrelia bergdorfi. If you look closely, you will notice vibratory action on the terminals.

The real give-away is the microfilarae. This seems to be a common trait with many lyme patients. These things are easily mistaken for dust particles by trained microbiologists. They are migratory, and do not exhibit visible motion. {I cannot explain this one. It may have to do with electro-chemical events}
There may be many forms of the disease, affecting people in many different ways. There may be viral elements to it. It is very complicated, and even PCR, or electrophoresis tests may not pinpoint it.

There is also the chance of laboratory interference with certain vector\bacteria elements.
The type of tick or other biting vector also plays a big role. Blackflies can carry microfilaria in Africa, why not here?
There is much more to learn about this affliction, and I am sure it will become the ailment of the day soon enough---just like candida has.
As for myself, I have enough pieces of the puzzle together to see the picture.
