Re: Started Oral Chelation with DMSA today
The Cutler protocol is to take a dose of DMSA every 4 hours around the clock. You cannot just stop when you decide to go to bed and then start again the following day. You must be using an alarm and waking through the night to take the every 4 hourly dose, both during the night and day. That's why some people find it annoying becuase they hate waking up, but that is part and parcel of this protocol. So when you go to take a 12 pm dose, you must set your alarm to wake at 4 am also, and again at 8 am and so forth. Annoying I know, but if you dont do this, you will increase the risk of redistribution and side effects or worse.
It has happened to me and it isn't worth it. Though one HATES the aspect of having to wake up at night for a dose, it's better than what may happen if you do not do it.
in fact, it is so crucial to do this that even taking a dose too late (e.g. you took one at 4 pm, but missed the 8 pm dose and decided to take one at 9.30 or 10 pm for example, you may even get problems with that). Whenever you go longer than 4 hours, the levels of DMSA in the blood decline. You want to keep DMSA levels consistant, which means no later than every 4 hours of DMSA, so you keep the movement of mercury as even as possible.
Of course, at some point you have to stop taking DMSA to take a break, so some redistribution at the end of each round is not always avoidable. But the break inbetween allows for the body to rest from waking up during the night, gives it a break from the stress of chelation and the still free floating mercury to resettle again before you start another round. starting and stopping DMSA constantly is going to allow the mercury to move erratically around the body and possibly move it into worse and more sensitive areas in the process.
I remember the time I missed a dose and decided to take a late dose. I ended up with severe side effects from redistribution and the metals then went into worse areas, my gut being one of them and I was in a lot of pain from that. I've had the same experience from using garlic supplements. Garlic being high in sulfur has the ability to move metals. unfortunately it can mobilise them anywhere and everywhere, so I ended up with teh same problem. Moving metals into the gut and being in a lot of pain. I also ended up with worse anxiety and depression.
So certainly detoxing mercury can be risky sometimes and it's best done as gently and carefully as possible. I also follow an antiyeast diet because that can also help with detoxing. If your gut is overloaded with candida, which then stresses the liver, you may also have issues attempting to chelate mercury.
So some of us have to treat multiple things at the sametime. I think you have chosen an excellent protocol (andy cutler's), and good luck with it too! Just be sure you dont miss a dose. if you do? Do not then take a late dose. You may get away with half an hour late, but more than that just gets too risky. Stop the round, wait a few days and then start again. I have Andrew Cutler's book, and he mentions this in there and that's what he says to do.
I hope this helps.
