Yes, they stopped adding it to foods, and started adding in the other halides instead :( which makes it double worse (hmmm....double worse? is that a word? lol). The japanese can probably get away with only a small amount each day because they have always had it, most likely from a very early age, so they would never have to deal with deficiency. Most people here are taking 50mg+ to either correct present health issues and/or to deal with the deficiency.
