Within one of the studies of this post, there is a sentence (see below) that may help you to be more confident in longer term use of iodine.

For me, I plan to use large servings (16+ drops) per day for at least 3 months. If I see something good, I will continue until I reach my goal. If I am not satisfied, I will gradually move my servings to 2 drops per day with some time off on the weekends. I consider this a maintenance mode.
