Re: A need for a new web page, by MH
Honestly, I have been taking a lot more cayenne recently, but I have liked "hot" foods for years. Dr. Christopher says that it is something that you get used to, and I presume many people would have worse reactions to it than I would. I know people that simply cringe at the thought that I would eat certain spicy foods, let alone take cayenne straight.
The only time I have noticed anything out of the ordinary is now, during my OJ fast. This would be because I am taking cayenne a few times per day, and well.. there isn't much else coming out of me, so I noticed a bit of warmth, once. Nothing since then, though. The cayenne tinctures seem to have less of that problem, as they absorb more readily and don't pass through you like powder. I am currently growing cayenne plants in my garden to make tincture from, but until then I will stick with the powder. The commercial tinctures, from what I have been told (and experienced once) seem weak. It would cost a fortune to use one of those little bottles every few days. I can buy the potent powder for pennies in comparison and I believe the local spice shop grinds everything by hand, so it should be better.
I've also done research regarding getting the peppers to grow very hot, and about some of the hottest varieties. Sadly, I only had 5 seeds for a rare variety that makes the habanero look tame, so I don't know how those plants will fare yet or if I will have enough yield to add to my tinctures or only to make the salsas that call for them.
Needless to say, I would not recommend that everyone jump in where I did - it could be pretty unpleasant! Then again, I know that I'd take the digestive crazies over some of the migraines I've had!
