You will most likely run into information based upon a crop specific, but most likely will not find a universal "ideal". This for many reasons.

I think the absolute best you could do is ensure healthy biological activity of the soil. Everything I have read seems to indicate that this is paramount as the life in the soil has a sort of symbiotic relationship with the plant roots.

After establishing active biological activity, you may want to play gently with the mineral content in one direction or another to observe and hopefully at some point come to some ideal results for your crop(s) and environment.
