Re: please discuss healthy places to live in the US
Here in the coastal Pacific Northwest, it's hard for some people because of the lack of sunlight. Forget the rain statistics because the problem is not total rainfall. Yea some places get more total rainfall, but here you get rain in constant drizzle and you don't get sun for 8 months of the year. The problem is lack of sunlight which can cause depression, hormone, vitamin D, problems and everything associated with it. A lot of unhealthy stuff going on here, and it shows in the people who have lived here for a while. There's a reason why Starbucks coffee originated here, and why so many people need caffiene and nocotine to replace the things the sun gives you naturally. Phoenix might have too much sun, but beware of the opposite extreme - too little sun which can be very insidious over time and can take a serious toll on the mind and body. A lazy rainy Sunday afternoon cooped up inside is great, but live that day every day for months... you might go mad. Summers are great here, but they are short and by the time you start feeling back to normal, the cloud blanket rolls in again and you're back to another 8 months of darkness, constant drizzle, and soggy ground. Mold is a problem here. Watch out for hidden health dangers in smaller towns like mercury-polluted bays and rivers, aluminum processing plants, paper mills, etc... It is also very hard to make friends here because people are so insular and unfriendly. The "Seattle Freeze" (google it)also applies to smaller OR/WA towns like the one I currently live in. I am getting out of here and moving to some place with more sun... and fewer zombies.
