Re: Accutane, Acne, and My Story HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Elaina is right. Botanical oils do help the skin look better and nourishes it. Here are some exerpts:

Rice Bran (Rice Skin) Oil
Contains tocopherols, tocotrienols, oryzanol squalene and phytosterols. It has a very high balance of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Oryzanol has been reported to be the key element in reducing cholesterol. Tocotrienol is one of the most precious and powerful Vitamin E existing in nature and is said to have an anti-cancer effect too. Rice skin oil is also rich in alpha-tocophero and has the highest amount of tocotrienol in liquid form.

Clinical studies have shown the presence of the above compound contributes to the following effects:
- bringing down the circulating lipid levels and maintaining cholesterol homeostasis n the body. It significantly lowers the level of total cholesterol;
- a potent antimutagen (anticarcinogen) and it can prevent carcinogenisis even if a carcinogen has entered the system;
- excellent oxidative stability;
- good for skin nutrition and maintains integrity of skin

[Note: this is an expensive oil - can you imagine extracting oil from rice skin (husk)?

Avocado Seed Oil
This oil helps fight chronic illness such as heart diseases and cancer. The phytochemical profile includes:
beta-sitosterol - a cholesterol lowering plant sterol;
gluthathione - an antioxidant;
phytosterol - a cholesterol inhibitor and prevents cholesterol absorption from the intestines resulting in lower cholesterol levels

Avocado oil is rich in Vitamins (A, B, b2, D, G and E), amino acids (palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic), pathothenic acid, protein, lecithin, fatty acids and has excellent keeping quality.

The oil is said to filter out tanning rays of the sun and in non-allergenic. It is similar to lanolin in its penetrating and skin softening action. Also known to stimulate collagen metabolism, increasing the proportion of soluble collagen in the dermis which may help related visible signs of ageing while softening the skin

Flaxseed oil
It is the most abundant and rich dietary source of the essential Omega -3, -6, -9 fatty acids (EFA) and alpha-linolenic acid. They comprise 58% of the oil. Omega -3 is important in preventing heart diseases because it thins blood and lowers cholesterol. It also aids the production of protaglandin, which regulate many functions of the body cell including nutrient intake, waste expulsion, division, pain sensations, blood clotting and many other basic activities. Increased consumption of Omega -3 has also been linked to increased emotional stability, control of dry skin and related problems, improvement of osteoarthritis and bursitis and toher joint degeneration diseases, relief from headache, urinary, cardiovascular, menopausal and irritable bowel syndrome. Omega -6 tones the arteries. Omega -9 or monosaturated fatty acids are found in flaxseed oil as oleic acid (about 20%) and helps to keep the ateries supple because of its fluidity as an oil. The key is to maintain a proper balance of Omega -3 and -6 fatty acids.

Flaxseed oil also contains high levels of lignans active polysaccharides that have anti-estrogenic, anti-oxidative, anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-tumor properties. It offers some protection against some types of autoimmune diseases. In short, it offers protection to the immune system of the body.

Flaxseed oil is also a rich source of calcium, iron, niacin, phosphorus and Vitamins (A, B, D and E). It is better than marine oil being a botanical source to an animal source and is the only oil being extensively studied in clinical pilot studies as a remedy for a wide range of illnesses.

[Note: it is a very unstable oil when exposed to heat and air (oxidation). In excess it is toxic and the pure oil, if used must be properly controlled).

The other very good botanical seed oils are:
green tea seed oil
olive seed oil
sunflower see oil

Ideally a balanced blend of the above oils will be very good.
