No punctuation? That's the day I'm gone!
My husband reported that all punctuation will be removed from the Internet.
I've already noticed that punctuation appears in grey, and that emails may automatically lose the 'fancies'.
Add in that most people don't care about typos, or spelling, or even grammar, and posts are hard enough to understand.
Spacing is another obstacle.
I consider myself a fledgling writer, trying to sharpen my writing skills to carry on to the next phase of my 'occupation'.
Also, for the life of me, I can't see that people will not lose communication skills if they never SEE careful writing.
So, though I've been told that commas actually now annoy people, I use them, and a dictionary, and I often re-read and edit my posts several times.
No, I do not intend to offend.
I simply acknowledge my era, and try to incorporate my passion...I love words. Always have.
Besides, without the best writing you know, there is a very good chance that you could easily lead people astray when talking about healthcare.
We NEED the best communication skills we can muster when discussing the most important personal subject we will ever encounter.
Among the thousands of people who visit this site, there will always be some so new to the exploration of well-being that they will throw caution to the winds, and hurt themselves...no matter how carefully the suggestion was written.
It is no wonder that 'scientists' hide their true findings in the gibberish of 'scientific' language!
It is very, very easy to entirely change the meaning of a sentence by moving, or re-moving, a comma.
If the writer intends one meaning, they may easily re-read the writing and miss the fact that their own comma is in the wrong place!
Then they (we) are shocked when they get a reply from a reader who has totally missed the point!
Count 'em, folks. See how many people are online now (at the top of this page), and figure how long each one stays, on average, to keep those numbers up there, 24 hours per day.
Was the number given as 31,000 visitors per day, give or take?
So, follow the mosaic, how many of those post while they are here?
Not bloody many!
...Because it takes courage to post, and possibly embarrass oneself, or worse, be misunderstood...even ignored.
Nor do we know what will be done with our words. This is a free-for-all!
No matter that the Terms of Service (TOS) state that, by posting here, we, all of us, GIVE our writings to an organization called 'The CureZone Foundation'...out of Texas, I understand.
Writing on the CureZone may seem to be a conversation with the few who respond. Not so.
Still, we try to help, and to find help, and to read what others have said about their experiences.
'Tain't easy, Magee!
Removing punctuation from the Internet is exactly the same, in intended effect, as removing the olive from airplane luncheon salads...to save money for the suppliers.
...Thousands of dollars annually, if not daily.
It's the same for cleaning ashtrays, or using iceburg lettuce instead of romaine.
Can you imagine how much could be saved by preventing people like me from using commas...alone?
Take away my use of periods (!), and parenthesis, and exclamation points...and somebody can retire truly rich.
But, they have changed my meaning...limited my ability to communicate. Gloom!
That's the day, folks, when I'm out of here!
I've posted as best I can, as sincerely as I can, as truthfully as I can...no matter that some organization now claims to own my words...and punctuations, for whatever purpose.
I wonder if the punctuation ban will be retro-active...if all our former posts will be gutted.
Sheesh!
So, if I disappear, my friends, and/or if my former posts disappear, know that I still care, and I always will.
Be well.
