Re: My Mucus Story -- Trapper, fluoride ? also
Hey FC,
Thanks for this great post. I'm always really grateful to read about a trying cleansing/detox experience where the person's sense of humor stays intact! It can be a really lonely road at the beginning as friends and family can look at that kid of reaction and feel you are doing something really harmful, when actually you are addressing the problem rather than suppressing the symptoms.
I echo Trapper's recommendation to check out the
Iodine supplementation protocol (or lack thereof...but you can read about it and try it out and if you are really lucky your girlfriend might try it, too -- v. important for women). A part of what you will learn if you read through the "R" and "RN" posts is that
Iodine helps to replace other halogens (it, fluorine, bromine, and chlorine are known as the halogens on the periodic table, if I am correct). A danger of a lifetime of toothpaste and other homes for fluoride, including tea, can cause a buildup -- you mention you drank a lot of tea, so you might want to look into
Iodine supplementation to get rid of some of that stuff. Possibly the biggest side benefit of this and the
Iodine Forum for me has been to learn about mouth health and the dangers of fluoride.
Cayenne is VERY helpful for mucous. How come I know this is if I eat a bowl of ice cream with cayenne, it doesn't congest like if I forget the cayenne, eat the ice cream, and feel out of it the next day. Zoebess has a great post on cayenne and its many benefits on her blog at CZ:

Look forward to hearing more about your experiences!
Best.
