My mother has passed so there is no phone line. I loved her very much and Here's what I can say from my experience, clean it up before they go-you're likely to meet them again in another realm.

If not another realm posts like this that show you know that there is pain and you do not want anymore but also want to mend.

Since it was Mother's Day traditionally it is your call, but certainly she could call- she may also know that you would call if you wanted to talk to her!
If she is interested in gifts then I would'nt feel to bad about not buying one, I think most mom's, not all, aren't interested in gifts as much as haring from you

And sometimes it is perfectly acceptable to take a break
