Sorry to sound so indelicate.
I respect the traditions of funerals and personal devotion, and also the ways of showing love, remorse and sorrow. I tried to make sure that it was understood that I wasn't speaking against the Catholic people or their devotion by saying that there are many who are sincere. Because I have had many funerals in my family, I have, at times, learned to appreciate an open casket for "closure", but I remember my neice complaining that her daughter would get nightmares and it is better for children to only have the good memories of a loved one.
Whether a person is Catholic or protestant does not reflect on their love for God, it is only each individual's choice of showing devotion to The Lord.
I'm sorry for being indelicate. Concerning issues and times of grief and trajedy, it's always hard to make sense. I've dealt with grief and still have, fortunately, DREAMS instead of nightmares, but some started 10 years ago, so, admittedly, I speak with a sort of "mental block" about the matter of funerals.
I'm sorry.
