Lasagna (?) gardening......

A friend was telling me she had heard of something called "Lasagna gardening"...
and that's supposedly where you just take a section of your yard...and put
potting soil about 6-8 inches deep on top of untilled soil and put your seed in
that...and she said she's been told you can grow beautiful,lush flower beds
this way. Has anyone ever tried it personally? If so, could you tell me what
you did if you were successful? Thanks Tweet
