Re: It was the drugs....
Well, to be fair, people tend to be troubled when they are prescribed the drugs -- nobody goes to the doctor and says, "My life is terrific and I feel really balanced -- gee, can I have some Risperdal?"
The problem is that the drugs can be helpful, but that we are learning/seeing that they can be extremely harmful, too. Sometimes psychiatric drugs are warranted, and unless you have seen people go into psychotic breaks which have been relieved by drugs, you are not qualified to say that they are across-the-board harmful. What I have found both in my own experience and in extensive experience with others is that the drugs are terribly overprescribed -- for instance, many many people take drugs for bipolar disorder when they have nothing near bipolar disorder. The problem is multi-faceted -- doctors respond to people who want to take something with drugs that the manufacturers push relentlessly and lie about, and people who don't feel good are anxious for a quick fix (or, the parents of children who don't feel act/good).
Only a normal life was going to help this kid, and it seems like the chances of his having one (friends, a spiritual life, a social life, happiness) must have dissipated long ago, leaving the bitter rage that fueled his attacks on Monday.
