Don't let the lack of a local supplier phase you, I live 3,500 miles away from the nearest CS generator supplier.
Stirring keeps the water moving & prevents the particles agglomerating to form bigger particles (constant current helps with this too), you could stir manually every so often but its a bit of a hassle. Take a look at the silverpuppy website as he's got a few different types of automatic stirrer that might give you some ideas. Basically as a stirrer use glass or plastic (glass is better), don't use metal. How fast/slow it should go I don't think it matters just so long as the water keeps moving.
