does this sound like a stroke?
Hi, today my uncle (who is 82 years old) came into work (he works at a family business part time) and he got in arround noon (he usually comes in arround noon, and leaves arround 4:30). He seamed fine though, according to everyone at work. He had a doctors appointment at like 1:30, and when he got back at arround 2, he seamed to be "off". For example the secretary does the crossword puzzle with him every day in there "down time" and she left the room for 1 minute to answer the phone, when she came back he was sleeping in his chair.
After completing half the crossword puzzle he also did something he never did before- there was an 8 letter word, he went to fill it in, but when he wrote it down he wrote the letters close together and wrote severel letters in the same box.
His speach was alittle slurred, but he had no dificulty completing sentances. It almost seamed like he was drunk, sluring some words and he was alittle wabbily.
He also smoked cigarrets about 1 a pack a day, every day he goes to the end of the hall, opens the back door and stands in the doorway and smokes. Today he was heading out to the back door, but stopped by the kitchen area and smoked his cigarret right there, as he opened the cabinit door and was eating cookies and cherios. Just smoked his whole cigarret right there.
He refused to go to let one of us drive him home at the end of the day, nevermind going to the doctors or hospital. I followed him home though, and went inside and he went to put the baseball game on, he was pressing the button to change the channel but the tv was not on.
He said he just is tired. He said when he woke up this morning he was tired, he pushed snooze a few times but got up after 10 minutes or so. I know he probally is tired, as he did go to bed last night at 4:30 (he usually goes to bed at like 1-2 AM but now and then if something good is on tv, he stays up). So he only did get 4 or 4 1/2 hours of sleep, but he just doesnt seam right. He can not hold a good conversation ethere, but thats clasic if you are very tired.
He usually puts his bathrobe on and naps from 5:30 pm till 8:30 pm, but I went to visit him at arround 9 pm and he was still in his work clothes. I looked in the window before I nocked on the door and his head was down and he was sleeping in his chair again. His girlfriend helped him get into his bathrobe arround 10 pm. You would think if he was that tired he would just go to bed when he got home from work, but he said he had to watch the redsox game. My grandfather called him at like 8 pm to check on him, and he almost got mad at him saying "how come everyone thinks something is wrong, I am just tired".
I dont know if he really is just tired, or if theres more going on then that. He did tell me he has had strange dreams the past few days, in them he is lost and trying to find the room for his doctors appointment. finally he finds it, then he cant find his way out, eventually he is out but he cant find his car, then he gets his girlfriends car but cant find his way home. Just its interesting that he dreams he is lost, and today in real life he seamed lost.
The only other thing I can think of is I know at the doctors they took blood, and he doesnt drink much water, maybe thats why he is so tired? Any advice or sugestions? thanks
