You health should be your first concern!
I have done long fasts and cannot recommend long fasting on water for weight loss. Regardless of how you fast you will lose around 1 lb. daily, even drinking lots of fresh juices, which will keep your energy level high (I do my regular gym routine every fasting day barring crises) and protect your health.
Burning fat can release dangerous amounts of toxins like DDT into the system. However, if you fast on fresh fruit and vegetable juices, get plenty of daily exercise (which also helps weight loss) and keep your colon very clean every fasting day, the danger is minimal. DDT and other toxins are released more slowly into the blood stream than during a water fast, and are better neutralized and more efficiently and safely excreted from the body due to rich mineral and vitamin content of juices. Daily colon cleansing, exercising and deep breathing help to make fasting safe with respect to release of toxins into the blood.
If you are quite overweight and want to fast on your own, it is better advised to do a series of short fasts (up to ten days) rather than one very long fast. This way fat tissues are burned at a slower rate, toxins released at intervals and eliminated more safely. You should eat a good cleansing diet (mainly fruits and vegetables) for a week between fasts until you have lost the weight you need to lose.
Unfortunately, quick weight loss is a poor goal. You CAN protect your health and lose weight quickly on the above plan, but be aware that unless you plan now for a diet and EXERCISE program you can live with post-fast, you will regain any weight lost fasting PLUS, very quickly! Fasting for weight loss is a great spring board for a newer, healthier way of living, but you need to rethink your goals and strategies with your health in mind if you want to succeed in the long run.
Best,
