Re: adverse effects of iodine supplementation

That's my dad, and please don't be regretful! I used to feel that way too (I lost my mom, my dad's wife, in '97). But Mom lived her life, she had "her path", and I now believe that part of her path was to inspire mine. Ya know, I'm beginning to understand now, that part of our paths were meant to deal with the pain and sickness of others to inspire in us that which we need to learn - as part of OUR growth. If everything was always peachy-keen and hunky-dory - what would we LEARN out of life?

My mom's doctor decided to have her thyroid checked after putting her on BP meds. Her thyroid was "almost dead" and he also prescribed thyroid meds. But he didn't start slow. She was dead inside of two months: massive heart failure.

However, if her previous arrythmias and dizzy spells hadn't happened first, I wouldn't have recognized the problems I, myself, had to face. What happened to my mother, God Bless her, is what helped to shape who I am today. I used to be regretful, too. Now I am only grateful to her for being my mother.

I am quite thankful that my dad didn't end his life; (we were afraid he would) - he watched mom die, watched the ETs revive her heart, and then he watched her die again, in the hospital, two days later). I thank God that all of us were together in that room when she passed. That was a testament to her spiritual strength, I believe. Her favorite phrase was, "Because I'M de MUDDA, that's why!"

I watched my dad go from a strong 70 year old, to just a shell of a man, full of worry, fear, and regret. I am thrilled to have something to do with his survival. He wasn't the perfect dad or husband, when mom was alive. But he admitted a lot to me that I already knew. He was filled with regret himself. We are once again bonded in adulthood, as we were when I was just a wee little girl.

Love to you. For all of your present regret, it says a lot. It means that your mother loved YOU a lot! She wouldn't want you to feel such regret. Quit beating yourself up...it's not your fault. We can't blame all the doctors, either. A lot of them (probably most) are "victims of the system" as well.

Remember, your mom's in a much better place! (Probably chatting with my mom about the two fine kids they raised!)

Love to you
