In the US, Vista is here already (Staples, Tiger Direct, etc.), but I wouldn't trust so soon (needs high-end hardware and is probably too tech-delicate/sensitive). I think it's using Internet Explorer 7 also (tech-sensitive software also). Waiting is probably safest. Maybe load Linux versions on old computer for now (cheap).
