Re: Action Alert: Boycott Wal-Mart for Degrading Organic Standards
Since you mentioned saving money, I can't resist mentioning one of the more recent scams around here. Some of you may recognize this. A prominent corp grocer is promoting "gas credits" based on the recepit $ total at checkout time, and of course, "the more you buy, the more you save!". My dear old dad is....well, I'm gonna be brutally honest, he's a real sucker for trying to save a dime here or dollar there, even if it costs him 25 cents here or $2 there to do it. He's near 80, compared to the life he grew up in with 5 kids in
Depression era podunk rural Pennsylvania, he's darn near affluent. But he still behaves like it's the 1930s when the only thing he and his family had to eat was potatoes morning noon and night. This grocery scam started back before election time which also happened to be when gasoline at the pumps was peaking. The catch is - one can only redeam their bonuse at select gas stations. In Dad's neck of the woods, the nearest gas station is a 20 mile drive from the grocer. On average I beleive he's raking in 10 cents a gallon savings thanks to his Giant pals.... and, yep, you guessed it, he's even going to the point of going to the grocery more often looking for stuff he does not need today because the more you buy the more you save. I'm pretty sure he and mom are now stocked in toilet paper and paper towells through at least FY08.
