Please, don't beat yourself up about this, now! You made past choices, and you can't go back in time and change things. What you can do, today, is begin formulating a plan. One of the best financial experts out there is Michelle Singletary who writes, "The Color of Money." She's also featured each week on NPR as a financial advisor. She particularly addresses couples and women who are struggling to improve their credit, improve their savings/investment funds, etc.

Google her name, Michelle Singletary, and you may be able to find some of her suggestions that will apply to you and your boyfriend's current situation.

About the wish that someone had "beat the idea" into your brain, well...if wishes were fishes, nobody would ever go hungry, right? So, hang in there, be positive, and don't beat yourself up about it!
