Perplexed about water filters

I have a RO Water Factory counter-top water filter. It is about 7 years old and the filters have never been changed. I'm thinking of getting a new water filter.
Most people seem to agree that a distiller is the way to go. It will cost me, just for the electricity, about 60 cents a gallon.

Now some questions.

1. Is it necessary to put minerals into distilled water? If so, what do you use?

2. Does anyone know anything about the Kenmore Water Purifier?

3. Any other suggestions for a dependable way to filter water? Or another good Distiller? Or a product I haven't thought of?

I have spent more time than I care to admit to, trying to figure out what to do about filtering my water. I've given up. Now, I would like to hear what your experiences have been.

Thank you!
