Some basic tips that may make life easier on the MC
Hi,
I write this assuming you have already read the book and have the basics.
Here are things I have learned over time and nearly a dozen MC's varying from 10 days to 21 days.
(1) Buy more lemons and limes than you think you will need. The same for maple syrup and blackstrap molasses. There are several reasons - (1) you won't need to keep running back to the grocery store mid-cleanse and face temptation. (2) Towards the end of your planned cleanse, you may be feeling great and thinking of going longer, but you're almost out of lemons (or anyother ingredient). If you have lots of lemons on hand, it will be alot easier to keep going. (3) It's usually cheaper to buy lemons by the bag than individually, so just buy a bunch of bags. You'll be saving a lot of money by not buying other food. (4) You can use any leftover lemons/limes for cooking healthy recipes post cleanse.
(2) If you make the drink ahead of time, NEVER add the cayenne pepper until you are ready to have a drink - unless you like the taste of cayenne pepper. I have found the best way to make a day's supply is to measure out the lemon juice, maple syrup, and water, and put it in a big pitcher with lots of ice. I put in a little less water than the recipe calls for to account for the ice. Then, when I am ready to have a drink, i just pour whatever I want and add some cayenne pepper. The
Master-Cleanse recipe says "cayenne pepper to taste" so I'm not overly concerned about the exact amount. I only make the drink ahead of time when I have to go to work; otherwise I just make a glass at a time.
(3) Invest in a citrus juicer. I tried the
Master-Cleanse with a "Juiceman Jr." and a Champion juicer, and found that these required a lot of extra work in cleaning and preparing the lemons. Finally I broke down and bought a citrus juicer from Target for less than $25.00. It is really fast and easy to clean.
(4) Get the right kind of salt for the SWF. I have found that Redmonds Real Salt works very well, but when I went to Whole Foods to buy supplies this time, it wasn't there, but "Celtic
Sea Salt " was. I bought the Celtic
Sea Salt because I think it is the equivalent of Redmonds Real Salt and I have heard other people here swear by it.
(5) Do the
SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) every day, or if you can't do it every day, at least every other day with the laxative teas in place. I have found that when I skip the SWF, I feel less energetic- even if I do the laxative teas. For me, the best way to take the
SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) is to drink it in two portions, fairly quickly. I use a 16
oz. liquid measuring cup (the clear Pyrex kind) and add a teaspoon of salt, drink it, and then do it again.
There's more, but that's all I can think of right now.
Happy Cleansing!
