Picky meat eater: What smell do dogs search for in food?

I was curious to know what smell a dog looks for in their food? My dog has become so picky that she smells carefully through her food to pick out only the meat. She wants nothing else, not even dry food. Obviously, meat is not good enough nutrition and I am wondering what particular smell she searches for in her food? Thanks for some insight.
