Re: Retirement age and retirement
Well...I know you posted YOUR post months ago...but I couldn't sleep and just ran
across it. We're retired! Yahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. My husband retired at
57 from a major plant in the area. I'm 60 and he's 61. We don't lead a 'hippee'
life...and we don't like a 'rowdy' life. To me...that kind of thing shows a lack
of maturity at any age. But I'll tell you one thing...we are living a 'storybook'
life. We have a loving, fun, playful relationship that most folks would die for.
We are still best friends after 43 years...and we are...the 'love of each others
lives' and we know it.
We had planned on doing extensive traveling...but my mom got sick first..and we
lost her...now my dad is 83...still healthy...but we don't want to go too far for
too long. My husbands mom has come down with alzheimers...and she's in a nursing
home near us....so we can't get too far for too long for that reason also. But
we make each day count...we garden and work around our 5 acres together. We have
a 2 acre secret garden with woodland paths...and it's wonderful. We rarely sit down during the day. We work from early morning until early evening on something
each day. Or we may go for a hike or something...or go junking. But we stay busy.
We keep our minds and bodies active and once in a while...someone will ask us how
old we are...and they say they just can't believe it. Or we'll run into old school
friends from 50 plus years ago...and they are in awe at how energetic we are.
We TOO feel you're as young as you let yourself feel. People don't stop laughing
and playing because they grow old. They grow old because they stop laughing and
playing.
There's an old saying..."Never regret growing older...far too many are denied
the previlege." kathryn
