Feeding dead cows to living cows? (Cannibalism)

My husband worked in a slaugterhouse about 5 years ago, in Canada. Canada claims to have stopped using hormones decades ago. Maybe they did stop. But my husband saw that they fed grains mixed with blood to the cattle. It was covered up with a strawberry smell.

I find it gross, that it turns the cattle into cannibals, when cattle are only supposed to eat vegatation.
I want to quit eating meat soon because there have been too many diseases like Mad cow disease, or Foot mouth disease.

I am fighting becoming a hypochondriac, with food irradiation, genetic engineering, hormones added to meat, over-processed packaged food. Educating myself to Alternative medicine is the best thing I can do.
