Re: Nystatin Rebound Effect

I've read that Nystatin actually kills the candida as opposed to preventing its overgrowth (which is what Difulcan does.) I'm on my second week of a two week course of Nystatin and it seems to be working well, although it works much more slowly than Difulcan. My candida came back on me in a rage after I finished a week course of Difulcan. Nystatin is supposed to be safer to use, too.

I'm going to try to talk my doctor into letting me take Nystatin longer term. Candida is a survivalist and my hunch is that we need to be on it much longer than two weeks to bring it under control or it might come back. The trick is to find a doctor who understands this. My doctor might, I've just not discussed it with him yet. But if he doesn't, I would like to find a doctor who specializes in candida. Does anyone know of a database to find a doctor who specializes in candida in your area? I live in the Washington D.C. area, so there must be some one.

Thanks.
