Re: raw food diet for dogs
I started feeding raw based on information I found at this website for my older dog who has bone cancer. I was just going to "try it out" or supplement her with raw food once in awhile, but it turns out that she and our 4 year old pug love it so much, that I have completely switched them over. I don't expect a miracle cure for our Rottie, but I do think she seems "healthier" than when she was diagnosed two months ago. She has more energy, she sleeps better and her coat is thick and shiney. Our pug loves his raw food so much he "points" to it whenver I open the refrigerator. His ears used to be full of gunk, and now are almost always spotless. His coat is also thick and soft. The real joy is watching them eat their food. On nice days they eat out in the yard. I hand Bubby a chicken wing and he runs right to his "eating spot" in the yard and has a ball ripping and tearing apart his wing. Sheeba chews hers two or three times and swallows.
Sheeba also gets raw, whole eggs, Cottage cheese or Kefir (to mix her medicines and supplements in). Sometimes I also give them baby food vegetables (carrots or sweet potatoes). Two or three times a week they get sardines or mackarel. At least once a week I try to give them liver.
I found chicken necks and back at our local butcher fairly cheap. I also buy wings and turkey necks at the local store.
