I realize on reading you article that you have most probably suffered from the same eye problem that I had at 57 years of age. Retinal detachment. Caused by vitreous membrane separation. Your symptoms were exactly what I had. Particularly the 1^st time it occurred. The 2^nd time it occurred. I can only remember the flashes. Both cases required, in my case immediate surgery to prevent any further detachment by the vitreous membrane or fluid.

I do not know how you managed to prevent further separation of the retina, but do recommend you seek professional help. What you are taking has little or nothing to do with your problem. You have been very lucky so far. What you are taking could however help with macular vision impairment in the future.
