Re: been there
The statement that "love is the basis for Christianity" is one of the best statements I've ever heard because it makes that point very clearly. That statement is a commonly understood principle of Godliness, but, in reality, it is not always LIVED. The reason I point out 666 is that it is very conveniently believed that the devil is an EXTERNAL spirit that INFLICTS evil upon the human race instead of being the mastermind (organizer) of the INTERNAL spirit of destruction and confusion that is natural to human nature. It is God's will that Christianity overcome human nature so that we can coexist peacefully, but as long as we conveniently blame all the evil on satan instead of accepting our (society's) responsibility for causing it, or rationalize something as being a 'necessary evil' or just a 'sneaky scheme', we are unwittingly complicit (accomplices) with the spirit (attitude) of 666.
This is not to say that there won't be a world ruler as an antichrist (1 John 2:18, "...MANY antichristS have come..."), but I have no reason to be convinced that it will be a male figure or even an individual or biological figure.
Yes, it is because of politics and partisanship that the "basis" of Christianity is considered as only secondary (sad), that's why the understanding that we are unwittingly (and sometimes wittingly) complicit with any antichrist is so important and is typical of why scripture is usually interpreted in a way that is contrary to "the basis".
