Re: Neti wash
Getting water in the ears is so annoying, and it can set you up for a nasty ear infection. A link to this website with FAQ's may have the answer to your question. Plus, it has a streaming video about the use of a neti pot.

The water won't come out the other nostril - what should I do?
Is the water running into your throat? If you are doing the nasal rinse with your forehead held much higher than your chin then the water will tend to run into the throat instead of out through the other nostril. Adjust head position if necessary, then try again. If you still can not pass any water through your nose you may simply be too congested and need to wait until your congestion clears. With regular daily use of the Neti Pot™ and by avoiding excessive dairy products and mucus-producing foods in your diet you can help to avoid heavy congestion in the future.
Why does it burn when I pour it in my nose?
You probably are using too little or too much salt, or the salt is not thoroughly mixed in the water. Check your recipe for saline solution. Too much chlorination in your tap water may also create a burning sensation. If you do not have a water purifier to remove the chlorine, then consider warming bottled water in a warm bath in your sink to bring it to a comfortable temperature. A respiratory infection (including the common cold) may also make your nasal lining more sensitive.
Why is the solution going down the back of my throat or in my mouth?
You do not have your head positioned in the correct way. Keep the forehead at about the same height as the chin before turning the head to the side and inserting the Neti Pot™.
I have used the Neti Pot a few times and now I have an earache – do you know what might be causing that?
Turning your head too far can shift water into the Eustacian tube which connects the nose to the middle ear. That can cause a “plugged” feeling that can precipitate ear pain. It usually resolves spontaneously but we suggest you check with your doctor.
After using the Neti Pot, I have developed a severe sinus infection – should I discontinue using it until the infection is gone?
Not necessarily but contact your physician because you may have had a low grade infection before using Neti Pot™ .
Why do I feel worse after a few days rather than better?
You may have had a low grade infection before doing the nasal rinse. Saline rinsing does not cure a respiratory infection but it can help to relieve the symptoms.
Why do my ears burn after I use the Neti Pot?
The ears and the nose are connected. If you pinch the nostrils while blowing your nose forcefully you may force mucus and saline into the middle ear. It is better to hold the tissue lightly against the nose as you blow into it.
Can I use
Sea Salt or kosher salt in my Neti Pot?
You should use the most pure salt available. You can not always be sure what else is in
Sea Salt but pickling/canning salt is 100% salt and is very reliable. Kosher salt is also acceptable.
Why use uniodized salt?
We recommend that you use pure salt without
additives to avoid irritation or allergic reactions. Pickling or canning salt and Kosher salt are best.
How much salt should I use with each?
Add ¼ tsp of fine grain salt or ½ tsp of Kosher (coarse) salt and fill the pot with warm water. Be sure to stir the solution thoroughly.
What kind of water is best and how warm should it be?
If your water is highly chlorinated use bottled water. It should be “baby bottle” warm. If it is hot it can burn the sensitive tissue of the nose and if it is too cool it can constrict the sinus passages.
How can I get more of the Varcho Veda Neti Wash Plus?
You can order more from our website or by calling 1-800-822-4547. We will check if there is a Whole Foods or a natural food store in your area if you call us with your zip code.
Should I use a pinch of baking soda with the saline solution?
We do not recommend using baking soda with saline solution. Using the right amount of salt and good quality water will best replicate tear solution which is the natural rinse for the nasal passages.
Can I pour SinuCleanse solution in the pot instead of using salt?
We do not recommend this but NETI WASH PLUS from VARCHO VEDA is an excellent product to add to your saline solution to enhance immunity and restore nasal health.
I'm using an
Antibiotic and want to know if I can still use the Neti Pot and Neti Wash Plus while on my medication?
Yes but we recommend you check with your physician.
Can I put the Neti Pot in the dishwasher or microwave?
Ceramic should only be washed with warm soapy water. Running your Neti Pot™ through the dishwasher or microwave may cause it to crack.
Can I use the Neti Pot right before I go to bed?
Yes. Doing the nasal wash before retiring will help you to rinse any dust, dirt, pollen that you inhaled during the day. It can be easily added to your bedtime routine: wash your face, brush and floss your teeth, do the nasal wash.
How many times a day can I use the pot?
We recommend once in the morning and once in the evening but if you are congested or living in a smokey or highly pollinated area you may want to do it more frequently.
How do I clean my Neti Pot?
Use warm soapy water. Do not run it through the dishwasher.
The glaze on my Neti Pot is cracking – can I still use the pot?
Please order a new one.
Can I share my pot with my spouse and children?
We don’t recommend it but if you have more than one user then clean the spout out with a cotton swab and alcohol after each person is done using it.
My doctor doesn't understand the Neti Pot – how can I explain it to him?
We can send some information about it to your doctor or you can have him/her call us toll free at 800-822-4547 and we will let him speak to our in house doctor.
How old do you have to be to use the pot?
We do not recommend introducing it before school age (5-6 years old) and then only if the child is willing.
An herbal extract is only as good as the plant material it begins with. This is why at Varcho Veda we first start with the finest, highest grade of raw herb. We use herb material that is either certified organic, grown without chemicals (GWC), or ethically wildcrafted.
At Varcho Veda, we extract our herbal preparations rather than using the herb in its crude form. Herb in its crude form (capsules, tablets, or herb powder) is difficult for the body to break down and often the digestive system is not able to extract and assimilate significant amounts of the bioactive components in the herb. Also, the coating and binder material in some tablets can equal the amount of herb. Crude herb in a capsule or tablet is also subject to oxidation, which causes the herb to deteriorate and lose its strength and effectiveness.
In essence, the Varcho Veda extraction process "predigests" the herb material and results in a faster and more complete assimilation of the active constituents by the body. Herbal preparations in the form of tinctures and extracts are more commonly used by herbal practitioners for their medicinal effects as opposed to the weaker actions achieved by teas and infusions.
Alcohol preserves the stability and strength of the extract for at least three to five years. We use only USP Pharmaceutical grain alcohol in the extraction process, as grain alcohol extracts the broadest range of active constituents from the herbs. After thorough determination of the plant's bioactive compounds, we select the appropriate methodology, alcohol percentage, and extraction techniques to be used for that plant, bringing you the highest quality product possible.
