Re: Need Input - please...
This is only speculation, but all interpretation is.
It seems important to make the distinction that at the well, they were drinking, not eating (John 7:37 says "come to me...", and also "...drink..." as if coming to Him is not enough, this seems to be further distinguished in Jn. 7:39 and Jn. 6:35 illustrating that recieving Jesus as salvation is only the first gift, but drinking in order to obtain living waters in our heart from the spirit and learning to be Godly is the second. That's probably the reason that God had scripture mention John 4:8 (the word FOR indicates the verse was a necessary inclusion). Revelation 21:6 shows that a reward will be given to the thirsty, not simply the hungry (who simply want to know God but never drink of LIVING WATERS from the spirit?).
Jn. 2:11 was Jesus's first "sign" (of what? I don't know), Jn. 4:54 His second (in Capernaum), but of what (that He is the Messiah, not the LIVING waters, but only the bread to eat of???).
The woman was willing to fellowship with Jesus even against the rule of separation from Jews (sincerity/friendliness/love, no animosity or disdain). That Jews had no dealings with Samaritans was not part of the woman's quote, God put that information there to help us understand her WILLINGNESS/sincerity to fellowship beyond the edict not to. Verse 10 doesn't say what she would have asked, but it can be assumed that she had spiritual training (Roman gods??), but didn't know the gift of God.
I don't understand what her spiritual philosophy was if she was to avoid Jews but said our father Jacob in verse 12 and declared her knowledge that the Messiah will come in verse 25.
In verse 28, the woman left her water behind to go into the city that the disciples returned from in order to bring others (not just share) to what she REALLY valued.
In verse 31, the disciples didn't call Jesus a prophet and valued food as sustenance. It would usually be assumed that the disciples would have a more intimate knowledge of Jesus and His mission, but the the short time Jesus spent with the woman yielded so much more spiritual fruit because of her willingness and attitude of heart (verse 39). This seems to be an illustration that true evangelism/conversion depends on the sincerity of a loving seeker (a person either has love in their heart to begin with or is simply unable to genuinely love, Matthew 3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance..." ,...he will baptize you with The Holy spirit and with fire" (rivers of living waters come from the fire), Jn. 3:5 "...born of water AND the Spirit,..."). We plant a seed, some water, but we can't provide genuine growth, Colossians 2:19 "...with a growth that is from God).
I think that all scripture can be understood as if it were a parable about life. (any ideas about her spiritual affiliation?)
