Re: Lyme Disease, Bacterial or Parasites
Hi Granny - first I want to mention that Lyme is no longer found just in the Northeast but all over the world. The infected ticks travel on birds and birds migrate. Also, it is my understanding that it is now believed that lyme can be transmitted by mosquitos.
Second, Lyme itself is not considered a parasite, but some of the co-infections (infections often transmitted with the same bite that transmits the lyme bacteria) are actually parasites. Personally I was diagnosed with Lyme and babesia. Babesia is a co-infection that is a parasite.
If one is infected with Lyme or a co-infection, the best thing to do is treatment with the proper
Antibiotics . If it's not caught right away, the treatment is far more challenging because of a number of factors.
I'm going to post a link to an article on lyme, and there is a link on that page for lyme resources. This includes the labs that are doing the newer tests. The old elysa test is known to have a HUGE number of false negatives and I showed negative for 20 years after being bit by a tick in Connecticut. It also includes links to some really active yahoo boards where folks are doing a number of alternative treatments. It also includes links to more mainstream lyme treatment information.
I also want to add that lyme is often misdiagnosed as other problems such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, parkinsons, lupus, MS, etc. If anyone has any of these I strongly suggest you get a lyme test from one of these newer labs - Bowen or Igenex. There are links to those from that article.
