your post is very interesting my friend. I'm going a similar road as you in fact starting this Forum (please I'm not bragging) it was just hearing so much about god and religion and i finding my way to god. 50 years i spent also.
unfortunately people tried to decimate this forum, they couldn't separate god and religion.i am trying and succeeding.
you see my friend most of us wish to live forever and i believe that people who follow religions and meet the requirements that religion demands then they are given SALVATION, ETERNAL LIFE. i think that's it in a nutshell!!
who am i to say that they are mistaken, not i, god perhaps?
through those very people i found God. not in the way they do but in the way i can believe, spiritually. no rewards, no seeking everlasting life, but to live my life feeling the strength and purpose i get from having the trust in God.
my meeting with God is through the Lords Prayer, i've not been forsaken, ever.
