why do AST and ALT Go up and waht is considered high?

Hi to everybody,
I would like to know what you consider high AST and ALT values in a chronic hep C infection. My values have always been low for the last 30 years of infection and now suddenly gone up to AST90 and ALT 180 .Is this very high?have you also have such high values and did they go down? How did they go down?I understood that values can be much higher during the acute hep infection but that is not my case.Does this mean that my liver is getting seriously affected by the virus?I feel so confused and my doctor wants to put me on interferon but I have heard so much about all the negative side effects and my genotype is 1 which does not repond wel even to a very long treatment.at least one year.thanks for your help
