Re: PLEASE - Help with 2 year old

Hi Corinna,

I nearly cried when I read your email because I have been in your shoes. You have already received some great advice. I thought I would just offer some words of encouragement and understanding. My son is 2 also and had severe eczema. He was allergic (IgE reaction) to peanuts, dog, and dust mites and sensitive (IgG reaction) to more than 20 different foods. He would scratch till he bled and the itching would often keep him up at night and I would stay up with him crying myself. After spending $125 on medication (Zyrtec, Protopic, and Keflex) that the allergist perscribed, I just couldn't give that stuff to my baby. I sought the services of two naturopaths, one conventional and the second more alternative. Through a major elimination diet(no dairy, soy, corn, eggs, nuts, grains, sugar, oils except olive oil, tomatoes, potatoes, etc.), and the addition of supplements (zinc, vitamin C, quercitin, bifidous) the first naturopath got my baby to a manageable level. He would sleep well most nights but he still had flare ups every 4 days or so. The second naturopath practices NAET. It has been 6 months since we have started and my little boy has had essentially an eczema-free summer. He just cleared peanuts this week which means he might actually be rid of his peanut allergy! Just prior to my last visit, I took my son to a healing mass with a charismatic priest where we both received a blessing (amazing experience). I wish you luck with your son. I truly believe this website is probably the best thing you have done for you son yet.
Just a few notes regarding food elimination - read up on what is in different foods - corn is a ton of things including iodized salt and baking powder, guar gum which is used as a stabilizer in a lot of food is related to or comes from wheat, peanut oil may be used in some lotions without being marked as such. I recently purchased Shea Butter, it works well as an emoillent and it does not seem to bother my son's skin (everything else makes it sting). Good luck. I have a developed a few good recipes for allergen-free rice and garbanzo bean flour based muffins and cookies. Can email if you are interested.
