Re: PLEASE - Help with 2 year old
Corinna-
my heart goes out to you. My wife and I are in a similar situation, and I know its not easy at all. Check out some of the past messages below, there is alot of great info. For starters, there are other types of health professionals out there who can help, but you do need to do research and ask around to find out who's for real and who is not.
I assume your child is not breastfeeding at this point, so a place to start would be an elimination diet. You basically start with four items that you feel strongly he won't react to. For example, you could use foods that he has not ever eaten before. This also eliminates processed food, because you never know what's in it. I would stay away from grains too... Certain types of dieticians should be able to help you. the Laleche group helped my wife figure this out.
After that, eliminate things from his environment... its not easy, and it takes time. regarding the drugs, we faced this dilemna too, but in the end decided that drugs make it worse long term, because the interfere with the bodies healing, and prevent you from figuring out what things are bothering him. i watched my baby cry in agony with the itching, so i know why using medication seems like a good idea... we did it for one weekend, but after i knew deep down inside that it just wasn't going to work for us. some people say to use the medication until he grows out of it, but i believe that the medication may make it harder, but not impossible. that being said, its not the end of the world, your child can still heal, you just need to stear things in a new direction. I won't lie to you and say its easy... coming off medications can make things worse for awhile before it gets better. hopefully others here will give you some good advice.
what city do you live in? are there any good alternative health care practicionars around you?
