Hi there!
I think you are are being paranoid. I have 4 children ranging in age from 23-2 1/2
they all developed speech at different times. Two year olds' with only a few words is normal. If you place flash cards with simple pictures on it in front of him or her they might even surprise you with a few more words. ( if they are interested in doing so) They can be very independent too. As for calling them without having them respond, it can also be normal. When they are involed with one thing it my be hard for them to put their attention elsewhere. Be patient. In the next year you should be noticing some changes in your child. It is not uncommon for your child to be babbling away something incoherent. I watched in amazement as very young children motioned with their hands things like bottle or bedtime. They were not able to verbalise it but they could sign. Be careful how much television you r hild watches because I believe it can hinder a childs ablility to focus and remain attentive when not in front of the TV. Love and enjoy your childs many progresses but try not to compare your child and their progress to another child. And yes all children ( or at least most) spin in circles they arew exploring
