Pet Rabbit?

Does anyone have advice for me? I am thinking of adopting a pet rabbit. I haven't really decided yet (I think I want one, but I'm trying to talk myself out of it). I live in an apartment with my husband and two children, ages 3 and 5. I saw an ad from the local animal shelter saying they had lots of rabbits that need homes.

I was trying to look up how to feed a rabbit a raw diet, but couln't really find anything - plenty on dogs, though. Is it possible to feed a rabbit nothing but raw veggies and some fruits? I could sprout clover and other seeds. Does anyone know of a good reference for what kind of variety would be necessary?

Do rabbits have lots of parasites? Can they be de-wormed with a regular human formula like humaworm, just in very small amounts?

My other concern is that my children would torture it. Does anyone else have a pet rabbit with a 3 year old child?

I would like to have the bunny have free roam of the living room/dining room area while we are home and only cage it when we go out. Are there other safety concerns such as chewing on electrical chords or such? Would chew toys suffice to prevent that, or to spray the chords with bitter apple spray? Has anyone ever taught a rabbit to use a litter pan?

Thanks for any info.
Tina.
