Re: Alkalinity
My doctor, who holds degrees in Chiropractic and Naturopathic "medicine", agrees. His basic diet plan is 80% fruits and vegetables with a large percentage of those raw. He then allows (although he is a vegetarian himself)10% animal products, including both meat and dairy, and 10% grains and starches. He is very much against refined white foods like sugar, processed flour, table salt, white rice and Crisco (all trans fats). He says to never eat traditional meals like meat and potatoes, sandwiches, pizza and hamburgers, the body simply cannot digest heavy proteins and simple carbohydrates at the same time. I wonder if that aspect of the SAD diet is what messes up the digestion of so many people at increasingly younger ages.
One thing my doctor suggested is for those who feel they must eat three meals a day to begin with a breakfast of high food grown in trees, that is fruit. Dinner (lunch to non-Southerners)can be ground foods, grown at ground level, ideally salads, but also beans and greens. Supper (dinner to non-Southerners)may be root foods grown under the ground. A baked sweet potato is one of my favorite suppers when I'm tired. I can see the logic of this program, fruits are cleansing and the body can continue to gently detox with a breakfast of fruits instead of coming to a screeching halt with bacon, eggs and toast, or cereal and milk. The fruit sugars will provide an energy boost without pulling all the body's energy into digesting a large meal. The mid-day salad and simple veggies add more minerals and fiber to keep the body going without overburdening the digestive system. When the heavier starchy root vegetable is eaten at night, the body can digest it while resting. Since the vegetable is eaten without other foods it can be completely digested without leaving a pasty residue to gum up the intestines. I am far from perfect, but the closer I try and follow this plan the better I feel. While I realize this forum promotes a fruitarian diet, I would like to know the opinions of those still on the journey about eating this way.
