Years ago I had a boxer that this happened to. I did take the dog straight to the vet and she did exactly what you did. I cannot remember her even bandaging the thing. I think that your dog will be ok. I believe what is happening now is just the natural healing. It will probably look quite dried up and then just heal over fine. Let us know how it goes.
