Re: What's YOUR philosophy?
I'd like to give you a philosophy that will make the tragedies in the world make sense and seem all for the better - but I'd be lying. Personally I have 2 wonderful twin boys that give my life so much meaning and love. But when I think about the future, I almost feel it was selfish to bring these boys into the world.
Yes the 20th century was the bloodiest cruelest century in history. Yet what made it so bloody was new technology (machine guns, bombs, etc) that the powerful used to increase their power and control at the expense of humanity. That technology is absolutely prehistoric compared to what we have now, and mankind has gotten more selfish and powerhungry than ever before.
These powerhungry organizations and individuals are so sick, crazed and myopic that they don't even care that they're making the world unihabitable by using depleted uranium, accelerating global warming, toxic pollution, and completely destroying other nations and peoples for their greed.
More people than you know see these same things we do, but decide to fool themselves because they feel powerless and would prefer not to be bothered by it. And adopting one kind of personal philosophy or another that essentially amounts to rationalization. Remember when Jerry Seinfeld said "rationalization is better than sex". He's not alone.
The way I get through it is seeing myself as one of the earth's protectors - and though I may be powerless to change much, there will always be things I can change. Whether that's reaching out to one of the many unfortunates that are victims to man's inhumanity to man or making my voice heard in some small way, there's always something to be done.
In the end philosophies won't change anything (for the better at least). The only way to change things is through action - and even more powerfully acting as a group.
