You can try taking to turn off the tv. I'm just one person, but I can vouch for the fact that within 2 weeks of unplugging my tv, I experienced a significant and long-lasting lessening of anxiety-related symptoms. I'd increasingly experienced some of these symptoms for the better part of the last 10 to 15 years of my life and found in my case they manifested primarily in two ways: while I was awake; while I was already asleep but jerked from sleep by an anxiety attack OR trying to get to sleep but failed to do so in large part due to racing thoughts, obsessive/compulsive type of worry..... anxiety.
Anxiety is a lot like stress, it has many faces and it's difficult to put one's finger on any one of these faces or the sources that cause them, and it does not affect every person in the same ways. In a somewaht ironic fashion with respect to how this has been affecting my patterns of sleep and awake, I've found that the more I wake up, so to speak, the less anxiety I suffer from. Oh, I still have anxieties, I'm not convinced that anxieties can be eliminated from anyone's life, but I have found that I don't seem to be suffereing from anxieties nearly as much as I once did.
