Re: How to debate a pro-lifer
My opinion is the average pro-lifer is looking at abortion in a way purely based on their "Born Again Religious beliefs, which makes the potential outlawing of Abortion a Religious Freedom Issue.
Because Abortion is mainly a Religous Freedom issue, then I will rephrase your argument how I see that it should be:
1) I acknowledge that the fetus is NOT a distinguishable life from the mother because it is still attached, undeveloped, and inside the woman's body and is therefore not a separate entity.
2) I acknowledge that Abortion is right by personal choice, and morals do not play a part because the fetus is still a body part, and with Religious Freedom everyone has their own idea of morals.
3) I acknowledge that any late-term Abortion should remain legal because at times there is a personal choice and a need, and to outlaw it would open a legal door to outlaw all Abortions.
4) I agree that childbirth can be dangerous and forced motherhood can cause long-term emotional issues for the mother.
5) Abortion or lack thereof has no place in honoring any Nation because it is a personal matter and should retain Right to Privacy.
6) I agree that adoption can be a horrendously traumatic thing for both Mother and child. It can cause lifelong emotional scars for the Mother, and the child is NOT guaranteed financial support and a stable loving home and therefore can be subject to emotional and sometimes physical harm. In many cases, Abortion is a better option for all parties.
7) I agree that our Nation should keep Abortion legal and promote programs such as Planned Parenthood's birth control awareness and sex education in schools. Behond this the Government should stay out of people's bedrooms and respect their Right to Privacy.
Someone like me cannot appeal to a Pro-Lifer's sense of reasoning because there is no sense of reasoning behind forced Religion.
The Anti-Abortion movement is purely a Religious Freedom issue, plain and simple.
Oh, and I'll add #8 for you:
8) I agree that our Nation should reaffirm and retain the Separation of Church and State.:)
