Re: Blood Pressure
Hi zelphabel,
I 'm not a Doctor I'm a recent Graduate Nurse. I have some knowledge regarding the effects of medications on the bodies systems. Hope this helps.............
Verapamil relaxes (widens) blood vessels (veins and arteries), which makes it easier for the heart to pump and reduces the hearts workload.
Verapamil decreases chest pain (angina pectoris), dysrythmias, and (hypertension)high blood pressure/ headaches.
NOTE: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Grapefruit INCREASES the effects of the drug VERAPAMIL, causing blood pressure to decrease more, can cause Hypotenstion > WHICH IS (LOW BLOOD PRESSURE).Also dizziness is a sign of low blood pressure too.
Do not crush, chew, or break extended-release forms of verapamil. It can release the medication into your bodies system more quickly, and therefor Lower Blood Pressure more. It's kinda like taking a higher dose.
I have been taking a blood pressure medication also for high blood pressure.
From my own experience, stopping high blood pressure medication can cause your condition to become worse, ( increase in blood pressure), headaches, ( Headaches are one of the symptoms of High blood pressure.
I did not want to take my High Blod pressure medication because I did not like what I read the side effects are.
I than started to get really bad headaches. I took a reading of my own Blood Pressure and found that it was very high !! Scared the heck out of me.
I know, why would someone stop the medication if they knew what it could do. Well I was not on the medication long about, about a month and thought maybe it would be ok. Wrong.
Decreasing the medication could have caused me to have dangerous effect, stroke etc...
I had such bad headaches that I got scared and started back on the med.
When I stated to take the medication again and the headaches went away and my blood pressure went down.
I have fasted on the medication , but I also take my own Blood Pressure using my stethascope and cuff. In order to keep an eye on my health / blood pressure.
You can buy a device that will give you an estmated reading of your own blood pressure / but the cuff is the most accurate reading of Blood pressure.
K-marts and walmarts have a blood pressure cuff to read your own Blood pressure, which is very cool to help people track their own Blood pressure.
You can also track your heart rate at home and see how fast or slow your heart rate is.
Place your index finger on your wrist below your thumb area.Than count the beats of your pulse for 1 minute.
If it is below 55 beats per minute, (1 minute) than it's to low.
Make sure you use your finger NOT your thumb. If you use your thumbs you will feel the pulse of your thumb, and not be able to count your pulse beats correctly.
Why not ask your local Pharmacist, for information on the effects of Verapamil and Fasting.
My pharmasist loves to use his medicinal knowlegdge to help.
I feel more comfortable asking my Pharmacist questions because sometimes my doctor just gives me a short sweet answer instead of explaining things regarding medication.
Doctors are more into explaining the cause and effects of diseases of the body rather than Medications.
Doctors do know what effects medications have on the body, they are just not as into explianing their knowledge of Medications effects like a Pharmacist is .
Pharmasisit are trained specifically in pharmasuiticals
( medicines ) benifits and effects on the bodies systems.
Happiness to yea,
Terri
