Selective internal radiation

Have you heard of SIR-Spheres? These are microspheres of yttrium 90 which are introduced to the liver via the hepatic artery. They lodge in the blood vessels created by the tumours and then emit a very short range dose of radiation, sufficient to stop the tumour but not enough to kill any other tissue. After about 36 hours the yttrium decays to zirconium. It has FDA approval and dramatically increases lifespan. It has been used by hundreds of patients in Australia and the Far East.
