Excellent Post
This is a good message, particularly for this forum.
Fasting, or ANY diet, for the sole purpose of weight loss is doomed to failure!
Unless we plan to change our lifestyles and eating habits post-fast, we WILL regain the weight, PLUS... those are the facts.
That said, fasting can definitely take weight off, and with proper diet and exercise post-fast, can keep it off! It can also teach us much about our relationships with food! I am a regular faster and have come to truly appreciate and enjoy the sensation of being EMPTY, and not to associate being full of food with being FULL!
We are complex beings with very complex ties to food. As we learn more about cleansing and healing our bodies, our food choices must naturally change for the better. I have read a few posts here from people who are eating all raw, for example. THAT is commitment! This is not to say it is the right way to eat for every one of us, but to make the choice to stay away from the myriad poor choices that face each of us daily takes real commitment and strength. Fasting can purge us of the toxins that call to us to EAT MORE!!! (carbohydrates and caffeine are obvious examples) and give us the freedom and clarity to choose how and when to include these items in our diets.
We are all so human! We all have freedom of choice. We are all emotionally tied to food and drink. We are all pretty much brainwashed to believe that without three square meals a day we will waste away pronto!!
Fasting can help detach us from our ties to food and allow us to step back and take a look at how and when we eat, and make better choices.
Blessings and a big hug to all of you out there fasting this week!
Best,
Somer
