Re: Cause of Eczema
I had severe eczema on my hands and feet for over a year. The allergist told me to throw all my shoes away and be careful what I touched. The dermatologist told me to stay away from chocolate, caffeine and stress.
It got so bad within a day after going off prednisone and zyrtec that I would call up my practitioner, crying and begging for another prescription for both!!!
Finally after being hospitalized for cellulitis (my palms cracked wide open and became infected, red streaks going up both arms).
I went to a different dermatologist after I got out of the hospital. (I was on IV antiobiotics for a week!!).
He did a patch test - it tested positive for formaldehyde!!! In other words, I didn't have eczema, I had formaldehyde poisoning. It's in most everything nowadays!!
I went to a health and wellness center who did confirm this allergy and after a couple treatments, I was, I would say, about 98% better. Because I smoke, there is some formaldehyde in them so I get a couple really small blisters, but they don't bother me at all and I know I can totally handle them once I quit smoking.
I avoid any and all cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, soaps, etc. that have formaldehyde in them.
I eat mostly organic. I have not been on any presciption drugs for
eczema for almost 2 years.
Too bad my doctor, the allergist and the dermatologist didn't do their homework. If they had, they would have saved me $$$$$$.
Anyway, I now work for the practitioner who owns the clinic where I was treated.
