Re: Wanting to start a water fast
From personal experience, I have to agree with Lapis that long term fasting is not a good or healthy way to lose weight. Fasting, especially water only fasting, is primarily for cleansing and healing. You can incorporate some aspects of fasting into a weight loss program, but you must start with a healthy plan before you can successfully take of weight and keep it off. Please trust me on this, I have tried to starve off weight and it does not work in the long run.
What you can do to start is try
Water Fasting one day a week or three days a month. Start eating right-right now!!!, don't wait for that perfect weight to begin a healthier diet. Starting right now, give up all refined foods, white
Sugar (really all sugar), white flour, white bread, white rice, margarine, shortening and everything else with trans fats. Give up or limit dairy and meats. Eat huge salads with low calorie, peferably homemade dressings (store bought usually means transfats), try a few steamed veggies like brocolli and carrots. You can have some potatoes and dried beans, but don't overdo them. Eat lots of grapefruit it may actually accelerate weight loss.
Please go with me on this plan, I know its not what you want to hear, but it is what you need to know. Right now I still need to lose about forty pounds, I have lost 35,but put on a few
pounds during the holidays. My plan is eating very healthy foods for at least the next four weeks, then doing a water only fast, although I have not set a time of duration for it. The fast is not to lose weight, but to hopefully cleanse my body and remove whatever is causing a chronic pain problem. Of course some weight loss is expected, but that will not be my main motive. I am also hoping that the discipline of a healthy diet, plus fasting will help create an inner atmosphere that will bring about some emotional and spiritual healing on issues that have plagued me for a long time. For most of us excess weight is not only the result of out of control eating, we have to accept that the over eating stems from other issues, sometimes physical, but usually emotional and spiritual. You can use
Water Fasting as a tool to help you lose weight while you heal and cleanse, but ultimately fasting for no other reason but to lose weight will fail.
If what I am telling you makes sense, then I would enjoy having you as a partner in cleansing. Its four to six weeks of preparation to fast, hopefully losing about 20
pounds during this time, then a
Water Fast of perhaps a week, then a lifetime commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
